About Xiamen University
Xiamen University was founded in 1921 by Tan Kah Kee, a well-known patriotic Chinese leader. For the past eighty–six years, the university has followed the motto: Pursue Excellence, Strive for Perfection. As a result, Xiamen University now provides a comprehensive range of educational programs and has become a first-class university in China with extensive international influence. Since its founding, Xiamen University has graduated more than 140,000 undergraduates and graduates. Over 50 experts at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) have studied or worked at Xiamen University.
Xiamen University contains 55 departments and offers 79 undergraduate programs, 217 graduate programs, and 131 PhD programs. Xiamen University has a super team of 2,282 full-time faculty and research fellows, 1,329 associate professors, and 354 doctoral supervisors, of whom 18 are academics of CAS and CAE (8 adjunct experts). The university now has a total enrollment of over 35,000 full-time students, including 20,195 undergraduates, 12,213 master students, 2,023 doctoral students, and over 1200 international students.
Campus & Facilities
Xiamen University has 3 campuses which located in the Xiamen Island, Jimei district, and Zhangzhou City, cover over 524.5 hectares. Surrounded by green hills and the ocean, Xiamen University is recognized as one of the most beautiful campuses in China. The university has a constructed area of 1.35 million square meters. 1st class facilities such as the library, internet, stadium and the swimming pool are modernized and on par with international standards. The library, in particular, holds 4.11million volumes (including 1 million electronic volumes). The scope and level of the high-speed information network on campus is rated at the top of all universities in China.
